Most of the Town's boards and commission meetings are held at the Town Offices at 81 Main Street in Essex Junction, in the downstairs conference room. The public is always welcome, and the meetings start promptly at their designated time depending on the specific meeting - see the corresponding board. If special accommodations are needed please call 802-878-1341 ahead of time.

Posting Public Minutes
Regarding inquiries about the delay in posting the minutes from previous meetings of the Boards and/or Commissions; we request that you understand there can be delays between the respective Board or Commission approving the minutes, the Recording Secretary typing them, and their transfer to the webmaster for upload to the website. If you feel you need to obtain the information quicker than its posting here, please email Greg Duggan. Thank you.

Board of Civil Authority & Justices of the Peace
The Board of Civil Authority is comprised of the Selectboard Members and the Justices of the Peace.

Cemetery Commission
The Cemetery Commission is composed of three to five members who are appointed by the Unified Manager with the approval of the Selectboard for three-year terms.

Conservation & Trails Committee
The mission of the committee is to inventory and study the natural, historic, educational, cultural, scientific, architectural, or archaeological resources of the town in which the public has an interest; and to preserve, develop and maintain a multi-use trail, sidewalk, and greenway system in the Town of Essex that will link residential neighborhoods to natural areas, schools, parks, businesses, recreational facilities, community centers, and neighboring towns.

Economic Development
The Economic Development Commission (EDC) is composed of five residents of the Essex appointed by the Selectboard for three-year terms.

Energy Committee
The mission of the Town Energy Committee is to provide leadership, advocacy, and outreach in the areas of conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy.

Essex Free Library Board of Trustees
Library trustees are appointed by the Essex Town Selectboard to guide the library through policy-making and planning.

Governance Subcommittee
The Governance Subcommittee mission is to research governance issues and to develop a list of options for improving, reorganizing, and updating local government in Essex which will at once serve as a focus for public education, engagement, and feedback.

Joint Stormwater Coordinating Committee
The purpose of the Committee is to study and make recommendations to the Selectboard and Trustees on policy relating to common interests in complying with the Stormwater Permit (3-9014) requirements.

Memorial Hall Committee
The Memorial Hall Committee maintains Memorial Hall for the benefit of the entire community.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission meetings are all held at the Town Offices at 81 Main Street in Essex Junction, in the downstairs conference room on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

Selectboard
The Town of Essex has a five member Selectboard who are elected by the voters and, appoint all other members of the Town's boards/committees.

Tri-Town Sewer Committee
The Tri-Town Sewer Committee is an advisory committee whose purpose is for the "mutual understanding of the conditions under which the treatment of wastewater will be provided."

Zoning Board
The purpose of the Zoning Board of Adjustment is to provide a degree of flexibility to an otherwise rigid system of regulation, to safeguard the rights of property owners and to alleviate the need for minor amendments to the ordinance through the exercise of a degree of administrative discretion as specifically authorized by state statutes.

Brownell Library Board of Trustees
There shall be a five-member Board of Library Trustees who shall be elected to five-year terms by the voters at the annual meeting. Only qualified voters of the Village shall be eligible to hold the office of library trustee. The trustees who are now in office shall serve until their terms are completed. The library trustees shall establish policy for the operation of the Library and shall otherwise act in conformance with the Vermont statutes. The five permanent, self-perpetuating library trustees shall function in accordance with the terms of the Brownell Trust agreement dated May 25, 1925. The Library shall be required to follow all financial and personnel policies adopted by the Village Trustees.
