The Town of Essex has launched a new online platform for residents and businesses to begin using for the issuance of burn permits.
Residents and businesses may now apply for a permit by creating an account and logging into https://essexvt.burnpermits.com/.
You will need to create an account or use an existing account.
*Important*:
- Use the same phone number to call, on the day of your fire, that you used to sign up otherwise it won’t recognize you.
- You want to choose an open permit; an open permit is required for daytime burning of yard debris and general clean up. (STICKS AND LEAVES ONLY)
- The Bonfire permit is for special occasions/ celebrations and can go through the evening hours. (This is not automatically approved and takes a few days to approve.)
- DAY OF FIRE don’t forget to call to activate permit!
- Permits are available to activate after 7am on the date requested. To activate, call (802) 992-1671. (Again, call with the same number you entered on application, so it recognizes the permit)
The burn permit website provides additional information about what is allowable burn material and when a permit is required.
The City of Essex Junction is restricted by ordinance to a small cooking fire and no open burning is allowed. The new online system has a geofence around the City and permits within City limits will not be validated.
