The Town of Essex was awarded VOREC grant funding for planning-related work to establish a multi-use trail network in the forest east of VT Route 289 to connect the Essex Town Center area with the Saxon Hill area, and other destinations such as neighborhoods, commercial areas, and schools. This project seeks to update and build upon the findings of a report completed in 2003 that investigated the feasibility of developing a multi-use trail network in this area. The 2003 report was a “pre-scoping study” that narrowed down the potentially viable design alternatives. The project to be undertaken now would achieve the next steps including the further refinement of the design alternatives and the development of more detailed cost estimates. Detailed design and construction activities are not included within the scope of this grant.
